What is TwitterPacks?

Twitter Packs is a place to get a starting idea of who on Twitter posts about what. Come in, look around, add your name where it makes sense, and help out.

A Quick Set of "Guidelines"

  • PLEASE KEEP TWITTER HANDLES ALPHABETIZED. Makes it easier for others to find you.
  • Wikis are editable pages that YOU create. This started from nothing on January 28th, 2008.
  • YOU can edit this. You have the power. No one has "forgotten" or "left out" anything. You just haven't added it yet.
  • Click edit on the page, type in "project" and you've got the same power as anyone else.
  • If you see a list that you think is fitting, feel free to add your name.
  • If you want to recommend someone for a list, feel free to add his or her name. (This, obviously, has more chance for abuse. Please help police this.)
  • The basic idea is to give people a starter point to add people on Twitter that they might find interesting.
  • There is no one authority. If you've clicked Edit, you have the same power as everyone else.
  • LET'S KEEP THINGS OBJECTIVE. Lists that make a value judgment (funny, beautiful, etc) mean that feelings can get hurt. By topic? If someone doesn't want to be in a certain topic, they'll move themselves. It's okay.

I had the same thought. A digg style functionality would be ideal.

I believe that there are Twitter API limitations that complicate, but how about aggregating the packs, so that one "follow" gets you the entire pack?

Anyone else think a Twitter Pack by School would be a good idea?

I like school. I also like political candidates.

While I appreciate having the opportunity to add myself to multiple, appropriate categories on the Wiki, I also think this is not necessarily the best way to find cool people on Twitter, or at least, not the only way. It may be a starting point for some people who don't know anyone else on Twitter, but they need to understand that it is most interesting if you add people you don't know, in different categories, and have two-way conversations with them. I found my first Twitter friends by adding people who were friends of a few people I did know, and then I watched @replies to see who else looked interesting, and I just experimented. I then found Terraminds and Tweetscan, but I don't even use them that much—I mostly add people based on conversations I have or see other people replying to. I hope people will only use this wiki as a sort of "Twellow Pages," as social media expert Connie Reece coined it. I do want to say thank you and appreciate the person(s) who started and are managing the wiki, because it is a lot of work for the benefit of the Twitter community.:-)

I would have to agree with the astute observations of Cathryn Hrudicka.

I think Cathryn Hrudicka it's right about the different "methods" to find the people "you want to find" on Twitter, one interesting it's based on the use of Twitter Search (http://search.twitter.com), and another it's to find for tags, I don't know why the people on Twitter doesn't use more tags, you know #tag

How do you use the "Auto Pack" for specific categories? The link on this page just does if for only one page and has no search function. Any ideas?
